How to install FlowForged indicators in NinjaTrader 8

Every FlowForged download is a NinjaScript add-on zip. You import it from NinjaTrader’s Control Center in a few clicks. There are no files to copy and nothing to compile.

Before you start

Install the free tools

All the free tools come in one bundle, FlowForged_Free_Tools.zip. Request it from any free tool’s page, such as Volume Profile or Session Levels, and the download link arrives by email.

  1. Save the zip and leave it zipped.
  2. In NinjaTrader, open Control Center → Tools → Import → NinjaScript Add-On and choose the zip.
  3. Open a chart, right-click it, choose Indicators, and add the tool from the FlowForged folder.

The free tools need no license and no Machine ID.

Install the suite

The suite is in a free private beta. Beta testers get the files and their license from us directly.

  1. In NinjaTrader, open Control Center → Tools → Import → NinjaScript Add-On and choose the suite zip.
  2. Restart NinjaTrader, then add the indicators to your charts.

The free tools are a separate download that comes with the suite. Import that zip the same way if you want them as well.

Upgrading from an earlier beta build? Remove the old suite first with Tools → Remove NinjaScript Assembly (select FlowForged_Suite) and restart NinjaTrader. Then import the new suite zip, and the free tools zip to keep the free tools the old build included.

Your Machine ID

Each suite license is tied to your NinjaTrader Machine ID and checked against our server when NinjaTrader starts. To find it, open Control Center → Help → About and copy it from there. Moving to a new computer? Email [email protected] and we re-issue the license at no cost.

Add an indicator to a chart

  1. Right-click the chart and choose Indicators.
  2. Open the FlowForged folder. Every indicator name starts with FF, for example FF Session Levels or FF Hammer.
  3. Select the indicator, add it, adjust the settings if you want, and click OK.

Most FlowForged indicators add a toolbar pill to the chart, so the common settings change live without reopening this window. Each product page’s User Manual lists every setting.

Turn on Tick Replay (only where it helps)

Tick Replay makes NinjaTrader replay the recorded trades for historical bars. Indicators that read individual trades use it to draw on bars from before the chart loaded. It is heavier on the platform, so turn it on only where you need it.

  1. Open Tools → Options → Market Data and tick Show Tick Replay. You do this once.
  2. On the chart, open Data Series and tick Tick Replay.
ToolWhat Tick Replay adds
HammerOrder marks on historical bars. Real-time marks need only Level 1.
ForgeDots on historical bars. Without it, the panel fills from the moment Forge loads.
FluxRecorded trades for historical delta. Without it, historical delta is estimated from each bar’s shape.
Delta ProfileHistory when the chart loads. Without it, the profile builds from live ticks only.
Volume ProfilePast sessions. Without it, only live ticks after the chart loads are counted.
Session LevelsOptional: places historical breaks at the exact trade.

Range Engine, Hammer and Session Levels can also run as a Publisher on a background chart and a Viewer on your execution chart, so the chart you trade stays light. The multi-chart relay guide shows how.

Trading hours and time zone

Update to a new version

  1. Import the new zip with Control Center → Tools → Import → NinjaScript Add-On.
  2. Restart NinjaTrader.

No need to remove the old version first: the new one imports over it.

Fix common problems

The import fails with a message about duplicate names or a missing file

An older copy is usually still installed, most often an earlier beta build of the suite. Remove it with Tools → Remove NinjaScript Assembly, restart NinjaTrader, then import the zip again.

I can’t find the indicator in the list

Look in the FlowForged folder of the Indicators window; every name starts with FF. If it is not there, restart NinjaTrader and check that the import finished.

A suite indicator reports a license problem

Check that the Machine ID in Control Center → Help → About is the one you gave us. A new computer has a new Machine ID. Email support and we re-issue the license.

Nothing shows on historical bars

Hammer, Forge, Flux, Delta Profile and Volume Profile need Tick Replay to draw on bars from before the chart loaded. Without it they start from live data.

Anvil draws nothing

Anvil reads live Level 2 market depth. The chart needs a live connection that delivers depth for that instrument, such as Rithmic or CQG.

The Tick Velocity HUD is empty

It is live only. Nothing is drawn until a trade arrives, so it stays hidden while historical bars load and outside trading hours.

Session levels are in the wrong place

Use a 24-hour (ETH) trading hours template and keep the session times at their New York defaults. If you entered times in your own time zone to make an earlier version line up, set them back to New York times.
